There is an old proverb action packed with wisdom that says, "The tongue has the power of life and death, and whoever loves it will eat its fruit."
So what is this proverb suggesting? In essence, it is saying, what ever you declare with your words - so it shall be.
In a personal & spiritual growth newsletter (Beliefnet) I was recently reading, Chris Widener (Internationally recognized speaker of Leadership & Personal Growth) says, "What we say has the ability to create situations, emotions, and thoughts in others. A kind word helps people, negative words hurt - sometimes for a very long time."
Just Think About It....
When someone said something to you positive (a compliment, a kind word or encouragement) it lifted your spirits. However, when someone said something negative or hurtful, it can really dampen your spirits and moods. I never quite understand the child hood phrase "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me", Because words DO make a difference. Sometimes what someone said to you even as a child sticks with you even through adulthood.
Although yes, the words we speak can affect those around us - but what I wanted to really bring to the forefront is what are you speaking about yourself? Are your words filled with negative self talk, "It seems I will never get ahead", "I just can't do this", "I am a failure in everything I do" and it goes on and on. Unfortunately, this self talk can be damaging to you and your future. Remember the proverb, "you will eat of its fruits". You are literally declaring that over your future.
Isn't It About Time?
So it's it about time you speak words of faith, positivity, and expectancy of good things? "I am successful", "I CAN do this", "I WILL accomplish my dreams" and guess what - "you will eat of its fruits".
Speak, Declare (and I add, Think) positive things to/of yourself and your life will move towards that outcome and you will indeed eat of its fruits.
