Falling Forward

Updated: Mar 26, 2021

Falling Forward

I recall a conversation I was having with someone in the past. This person was asking me some questions as it relates to my career and quite honestly the questions made me quite uncomfortable.

Although I know this person's intentions were good, I thought to myself, why did the questions make me feel so uncomfortable? Normally, "my eyes" (spiritually) are looking ahead towards the goal that I desire to accomplish, achieve and aspire to do. This allows me to keep moving forward and making progress.  But what those questions really did was shift my focus in the wrong direction. When your focus shifts to "what is now" rather than "what is becoming", your focus reverts to failures, disappointments, set backs, and quite honestly it can really put a damper on your mood.

As most of you know, I am a musician - so I pretty much have a song for everything and this subject reminds me of the song by one of my favorite artists, Sandi Patty.

"Falling Forward"

Here are a few lines from the song....

There are moments on this journey If you ask me how I feel It seems I'm moving backwards Or, at least, just standing still When I'm frozen in my failure There's a whisper "Don't forget! Your redeemer somehow uses Even what you most regret!"

Step by step Day by day I'm completely undone by the miracle of grace And I'm amazed I'm amazed through it all Even when I fall I'm falling forward

You can listen to the entire song here below....

This song reminded me that no matter how many times we may fall - we are falling forward. We are that much closer to our dream. The Divine uses even the very things that we most regret for our good.

This song helped me shift my focus back straight ahead - not looking to the left, not looking to right - but keeping my eyes on the prize (my dreams, desires, & aspirations).

Nothing Is Ever Wasted

In a recent inspirational post by Joel Osteen (one of my favorite personal and spiritual growth speakers), he states that with The Divine, all things are possible and nothing is ever wasted. No hurt, no dream, no set back is ever wasted.

We simple fall forward and that somehow works together for our good and allows us to get back up and if we choose, we can shift our focus back to where it needs to be.

So be encouraged today that nothing is ever wasted. If you fall forward, remember, you are only that much closer to where you need to be.
